Currie Medical Specialties, Inc. Receives Innovative Technology Designation from Novation for Currie Kids
Designation recognizes the development of new solutions that benefit the health care industry
Franklin, TN (January 18, 2016) – Currie Medical Specialties, Inc. announced its Currie Kids has received Innovative Technology designation from Novation, the leading healthcare services company that serves the more than 100,000 members and affiliates of VHA Inc., UHC, Children's Hospital Association, and Provista. The designation was based on reviews of Currie Kids by hospital experts who attended Novation’s Innovative Technology Expo in November. The annual event provides medical technology suppliers the opportunity to demonstrate their product and gain direct feedback from onsite clinical experts and health care providers on the impact their products may have on improving clinical care, safety, or benefits to organization’s care and business models.
Currie Medical Specialties, Inc. has created Currie Kids the first FDA cleared garments, specifically designed to fit pediatric patients for pneumatic compression in order to prevent VTE. The Currie Kids garments include the ALP 1PS for patients under 6 years of age and the ALP 1P for patients between 6 and 12 years of age. These two new garments are complimented by the ALP 1SM for adolescents, offering pediatric units and facilities a full range of coverage for the entire pediatric population.
President and CEO of Currie Medical Specialties, Steve Simpson, said “Currie Medical Specialties is honored to receive the Innovative Technology designation for our pediatric line of garments, Currie Kids. Our company is committed to developing and delivering the best products to lead in the prevention of VTE. By partnering with one of the leading Children’s facilities in the country, the Currie Kids product line was created to fill a void in the market and deliver the right fit for all pediatric patients. We look forward to partnering with other Children’s facilities that can now use Currie Kids to prevent VTE in even the smallest patients.”
“Novation is committed to providing the members we serve with leading-edge technologies that deliver new clinical and operational benefits from what is currently available in the market today,” said Debbie Archer, director of procurement and leader of the Innovative Technology program for suppliers. “After reviewing Currie Medical Specialties, Inc. and Currie Kids at our annual Innovative Expo, the hospital experts who attended agreed the product offers unique and incremental benefit over other products available on the market today, and recommended it for the Innovative Technology designation.”
Since 2003, more than 2,000 new and innovative products and technologies have been submitted through the Novation Innovative Technology program. Novation works with member-led councils and task forces to identify and review potentially innovative products. If it is determined that a product is innovative, a contract may be awarded outside of Novation's competitive bid cycle.
